The 1994 Time magazine commemorative issue of Richard Nixon.

I picked up and read that "Time" commemorative issue of Richard Nixon—a former American president who died in 1994—when I was in Form Four at Starehe Boys' Centre in 2005.

The magazine certainly had a lot to say about Nixon, but I only remembered two elements I saw on the cover. The first was the line that reads: "His Parting Advice to Bill Clinton: America Must Lead."

The other was the photo of Nixon. It touched me so much that I cut out the cover and glued it above our classroom blackboard. When I looked at it, I'd see the face of a man who knew the ways of the world. His quiet wisdom inspired us.
